What is the difference between au gratin and scalloped potatoes?
Scalloped potatoes and au gratin are in theory quite similar dishes. However, au gratin is a bit more decadent than scalloped potatoes since it contains cheese between each layer as well as on top. Scalloped potatoes, on the other hand, contain just cream and butter.
What can I add to my scalloped potatoes?
A great blank canvas, you can add a variety of ingredients to give scalloped potatoes that extra pizazz. Our favourite additions include mushrooms, bacon, or even caramelised onion! If you’re after a little kick, add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper for some heat.
Will scalloped potatoes cook faster covered or uncovered?
We recommend covering your scalloped potatoes with foil when cooking as it helps speed up the process. However, if you want to crisp up the potatoes on top, remove the foil in the last couple minutes of cooking, as recommended in the recipe.
Can you bake scalloped potatoes ahead of time and reheat?
