This thieves cleaner recipe uses castile soap and several essential oils to make your own natural multi-purpose cleaning spray from scratch.
You don’t need to buy thieves oil to make this spray. You can make your own homemade essential oil blend using rosemary, eucalyptus, clove, orange and cinnamon oils that works just as well as the pricier, premade thieves concentrate.

- Eucalyptus Essential Oil – A natural disinfectant. It works well against fungi, viruses and bacteria.
- Rosemary Essential Oil – A good choice for cleaning because it is naturally antiseptic and antibacterial. It also leaves behind a fresh smell.
- Clove Essential Oil – A great addition to a multipurpose cleaner since it has anti-fungal properties that can actually kill mold.
- Orange Essential Oil – As well as being a natural degreaser, orange oil is also antiseptic.

- Castile Soap – Castile soap cleans by lifting dirt and grime off of the surfaces its used on. I like to use orange castile soap since it pairs well with all of the other scents from the essential oils in this DIY thieves cleaner.
- Filtered Water – using distilled water will make your thieves cleaner last longer than using regular tap water.
I use Plant Therapy essential oils in my homemade cleaners, but you can use whichever brand of oils you like best.

To Make Thieves Oil from scratch
In a small dropper bottle, mix clove, eucalyptus, rosemary, orange and cinnamon essential oils together to make thieves oil from scratch.
To Make a 16 oz bottle of thieves household cleaner
Combine 20-30 drops of premade or homemade thieves oil and castile soap in a 16 ounce spray bottle. Fill the rest of the way with distilled water. Shake well to combine.
Tips for success
To Use – Use this spray on anything you would use a multi-purpose cleaner on. Spray lightly onto the surface that needs cleaning, and wipe with a soft, clean cloth.
To Store – For maximum strength, store your thieves cleaner in a dark and preferably cool place for up to a year.
Variations – Replace the water in this recipe with white vinegar to make it a more powerful disinfectant.
Substitutions – A mild dish soap can be used in place of castile soap in this recipe if that’s what you have on hand.
