How to cut the bitter taste of grapefruit:

There are four major tastes in food; sweetness, sourness, saltiness, and bitterness. Sour is the opposite complement to salt and bitter is the opposite complement of sweet. Now grapefruit is a bit of an odd bird in this equation because it’s considered to be bitter-sour. Tocut the bitterness in grapefruit, you can add something sweet or salty to it.

  • add cane sugar or brown sugar to it
  • drizzle honey on it
  • sprinkle salt on it
  • mix it with other sweet fruits like bananas, strawberries, kiwi, or mango

  1. Just wanted to share an old 'country folk' tip. You don't need to add sugar, or anything to a grapefruit. The bitterness you taste is only from the membrane, ie the skin that segments the fruit pulp into the individual wedges. You cut the top and bottom off the grapefruit, pull it open, then carefully split each wedge open and scoop the pulp out. Then be sure to wash your hands really well. This method makes such a difference in the way it tastes!
