50 Best Mexico City Restaurants | Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (2024)

Mexico City’s restaurants are incredibly varied, representing nearly every cuisine worldwide.

With a few notable exceptions, such as Pujol and Quintonil, which routinely rank among the world’s top restaurants and best restaurants in Mexico City, the most fantastic restaurants in Mexico City are always changing as new restaurants open and close.

The fact that Mexico City is so big and has so many neighborhoods has always made me hesitant to compile this list, as I tend to stick to the neighborhoods I most often stay in when I’m visiting Mexico City- Roma Norte, Juarez, Condesa, and Polanco.

But I believe the following list will be helpful for most of you as if you’re visiting CDMX on vacation you’re likely staying in one of these same neighborhoods.

I’m a frequent visitor to the city and I’m also considering basing from Mexico City at some point in the near future so please feel free to leave your favorite restaurants in the comment section below. I anticipate this will be one of my most updated posts as I continue to eat my way through the city!

Enjoy my ultimate guide to the best Mexico City restaurants in the following sections!

50 Must-Try Mexico City Restaurants

Polanco Restaurants

Pujol

Tennyson 133, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525555454111

Chef Enrique Olvera’s Pujol is his personal philosophy of Mexican cuisine, uniquely capturing history and contemporary gastronomy by combining old and new techniques. Pujol is known for innovation and continual improvement.

Olvera recombines Mexico’s practically endless ingredients and flavors with ingenuity and delicacy, showcasing the potential of distinct food culture in obsessive detail.

Everyone expects them to receive their first Michelin star shortly, as they are famous for their molé.

As soon as you learn the history behind every tortilla you grab, no further justification is necessary.

The entire tasting menu was delicious, but our favorites were the sea bass ceviche and the tuna tostada. The steamed crab gordita was also highly inventive in terms of presentation, format, and flavor. Previous tasting menus included a lengua (beef tongue) dish that I still think about years later.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (1)

The attentive staff always filled our water and wine glasses. The mid-century architecture and mood were fantastic.

However, I’ve seen a drop in quality over the last few years, but no matter what, no list of the top restaurants in Mexico City would be complete without mentioning Pujol. You’ll need to make a reservation far in advance. It is unquestionably worthwhile to pay a visit.

Quintonil

Av. Isaac Newton 55, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525552802680

You must understand that Quintonil is more concerned with cuisine and service than with flashy decor. The design is simple, and the eatery likely has about fifteen tables.

Quintonil is, without a doubt, my first option for fine dining in Mexico City. We had a better dining experience here than at Pujol.

We chose the Summer Tasting menu, and there was no bad course. Our favorites were the Stone Crab, Grilled Wild Mushrooms, and Roasted Heirloom Tomato Salad. The wine list was vast and reasonably priced, so we chose a favorite bottle over the wine matching.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (2)

It was a pleasure to sample each course, and I admire the chef’s imagination for integrating so many different ingredients into each dish.

Despite the excellent service and leisurely dinner pace, we never felt we had to wait very long for the following course.

For the foodies that enjoy trying new cuisines and cuisines with diverse flavors, I heartily recommend Quintonil for fine dining in Mexico City! You’ll need to try for a reservation well in advance.

Guzina Oaxaca

Av. Pdte. Masaryk 513, Polanco, Polanco II Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525552821820

Guzina Oaxaca is the only restaurant in Mexico City run by renowned Oaxacan Chef Alejandro Ruiz. He has developed an innovative gastronomic concept, leading the guests through a journey of flavors.

Alejandro Ruiz is the inventor and developer of the gastronomic concept “Casa Oaxaca,” in his role as the Executive Chef of Hotel Casa Oaxaca and Oaxaca House Casa Oaxaca Restaurant and Cafe.

We went for brunch, and it was a pleasant surprise to discover an Oaxacan corner in Mexico City. The decor is basic and elegant, with enough light.

We tried the Tlayuda with Chorizo, which was (almost) as good as what you can find in the Oaxaca marketplace, as well as the Salsa de Queso Fresco con Nopalitos (it’s like a soup, spiced green tomato sauce with big bits of fried, fresh cheese and cactus).

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (3)

Their juices are fresh and produced on the spot, while the coffee is robust and from the state of Chiapas. Excellent service; the proprietor came to our table to engage with us, telling us about Oaxacan cuisine and ensuring that everything met our expectations.

I definitely recommend it for a dinner or lunch of Oaxacan cuisine in Mexico City.

Sushi Iwashi

Av. Emilio Castelar 204, Polanco, Polanco III Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525630354220

Some of the best sushi I’ve had this year, no matter what city I’ve been to; real sushi with fantastic flavors and exotic combinations.

The name of the game is their nigiris. High quality and great variety; you can stuff your face with them. They are not cheap, ranging from 100+ pesos for a toro to 25 for red snapper.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (4)

I had about half a dozen nigiri and a rice bowl with a mix of tuna, salmon, and white fish. I could have gone for more, but I decided I should save something for next time!

It’s worth the visit if you are looking for authentic Asian food in this Mexico City neighborhood!

Ostería del Becco

Goldsmith 103, Polanco, Polanco III Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, // +525552820957

This restaurant provides a stylish and beautiful atmosphere without going overboard. For those unaware, the restaurant is owned by Massimo Bottura, who recently won the prize for the finest restaurant in the world for his Modena location.

This restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine. The ingredients are all-natural, and the cuisine is designed to fulfill a wide range of expectations.

The wine list is definitely worth noticing; it has to be one of the most extensive lists of Italian wines in Mexico, around five cm (almost two inches!) thick.

Furthermore, the sommelier is knowledgeable about what’s available but emanates humility by stimulating and engaging the novice oenophile. The cava is also visually appealing.

The food has always been outstanding every time we came here, no matter how crowded. Pasta has never been overcooked or undercooked; it is always al dente, just the way we want it. Other dishes were always delivered immediately and at the proper temperature.

The grilled octopus and vegetables are noteworthy; the octopus is neither too chewy nor too soft, and the vegetables are at their optimal maturity since only the lightest spice is used, allowing all of the natural tastes to shine through.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (5)

My only “criticism” is that the portions could be smaller so that you could order more meals while dining in small groups. The character of the food is Italian true to tradition, but with slight modern upgrades. It was an amazing experience which I strongly recommend trying!

Rosa Negra

Av. Pdte. Masaryk 298, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525552822603

This restaurant was nothing short of spectacular. Rosa Negra truly understands the eating experience, with a beautiful environment, attentive waitstaff, live music, and, most importantly, excellent gastronomy!

I try not to include chain restaurants in my lists but this is a smaller local chain and we first discovered Rosa Negra as it’s one of my favorite restaurants in Tulum.

It shines from the amazing decor to the mood to the helpful employees. And I haven’t even started on the cuisine. The dish was superbly prepared. Everything felt fresh and perfectly cooked.

We were served by two people who described what was what and how it was all made at every step.

Rosa Negra is famous for its steaks and seafood. I had the crab bisque and the risotto with a filet mignon. Both dishes were tasty and substantial. My friend got the New Zealand salmon and said it was delicious.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (6)

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the co*cktails!! To say they are one-of-a-kind would be an understatement. I got the margarita, but while watching other diners, I noticed drinks with skulls, light bulbs, and others that shone!

Overall, it was a fantastic experience for us. Everything was top-notch and done to perfection. This Mexico City steakhouse will always treat you like a king or queen.

Chapulín

Campos Elíseos 218, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo //+525553277789

If you’re looking for a solid Mexican restaurant in Mexico City, Chapulin is an excellent choice. It is well-known for its authentic Mexican cuisine and has won numerous honors.

This place’s architecture is stunning and takes advantage of the neighboring park. Like a chocolate mole, the wall’s rich brown emphasizes the vegetation immediately outside.

Chapulin restaurant has delicious breakfast, lunch, and supper menus that feature fresh fish and seafood. The decor is contemporary, elegant, and large, making it suitable for any occasion.

Guacamole, Flor de Calabaza, and Tiraditos were our first courses. The guacamole and chips were just ideal in terms of spice and flavor. The Flor de Calabaza was delicious. To cleanse the palette, the Tiraditos with Chicharon was pretty refreshing.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (7)

We enjoyed fresh fish with Mole Negro, tacos de Carne with mole, and tacos de Lechon for the main course.

Both the fish and the tacos were great with the mole. The Lechon tacos were delicious. The mood was bright and upbeat. Overall, this is an authentic Mexican restaurant to which I will return.

Tori Tori

Temístocles 61, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525552808067

Tori Tori is a fantastic fine-dining sushi restaurant in Mexico City. It offers superb cuisine and superior service in an elegant setting where customers can enjoy their dining experience completely.

The adventure begins as soon as you pass through a somewhat hidden door with no obvious sign.

The setting is lovely, and the architecture is stunning, making you question if they’ve put as much attention into the food. In this situation, though, they have. Their seafood is fantastic! The Hamachi Nigiri, like the thinly sliced tuna sashimi, melts on your tongue.

There is a wonderful dish called Chirashi, which comes in a bowl. It consists of rice, raw fish, chopped seaweed, avocado, and masago, and if it is marinated, it will add a delightful, slightly spicy mayo.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (8)

I paired it with an Allende, a light but delicious microbrew, and a sweet, creamy Kikusui Perfect Snow sake. The service was excellent, as was the meal. The servers are attentive and meticulous in their descriptions of the dishes.

One word of caution: this is not a restaurant for those on a tight budget. Aside from that, you will undoubtedly appreciate the meals here!

Ivoire

Av. Emilio Castelar 95, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525552800477

Fantastic French cuisine in the center of Polanco. The restaurant is located in Lincoln Park and offers a chic atmosphere, park views, and delicious food!

The restaurant and meals had a retro flavor, like something out of Casablanca.

We began with champagne and escargot, followed by French onion soup topped with gruyere, an apple, sliced raw artichoke, braised lima beans, and arugula salad. My friend ordered salmon, and I got a fillet of sole with a morel cream sauce.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (10)

We finished the evening with a Gran Marnier soufflé and more champagne. Even though it was pouring outside, it was a pleasant evening. We enjoyed a wonderful night upstairs, sitting by the open windows; definitely one to remember.

I hope more people know about this place because it was a fantastic experience that I would like to repeat the next time we want French cuisine in CDMX.

Catamundi

Alejandro Dumas 97, Polanco, Polanco IV Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, //+525552806681

In good weather, the rooftop pool is a terrific spot to unwind and will give you a tranquil ambiance away from the noise below. The food is excellent, and there are numerous activities for both children and adults.

My friends got the Chilaquiles, Avocado toast, and Burger, while I had the Huevos motuleños.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (11)

Another favorite was the scrambled eggs on peasant bread- the eggs were scrambled with cheese and butter and are some of the best scrambled eggs I’ve ever had!

Everything was wonderful and presented beautifully. They also have delicious coffee and almond milk! A must-see for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Polanco!

Blanco Castelar

Av. Emilio Castelar 163, Polanco, Polanco III Secc, Miguel Hidalgo //+525550270322

Despite its small size, this restaurant has many outstanding features. Besides excellent service, the many rooms are beautifully decorated, and the food is delicious.

We started with some of the greatest grilled artichokes I’ve ever had. We also had pork tacos, fried cheese tacos, and langoustine tacos. They came with four salsas that went perfectly with our appetizers.

The sea bass and grilled fillet we shared were both amazing. We enjoyed an excellent and reasonably priced Argentinian Malbec from the large wine list.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (12)

This is a sanctuary for foodies looking for spectacular foods served beautifully in lively surroundings.

Butcher & Sons

Virgilio 8-Local B – 91 And 92, Polanco, Polanco III Secc //+525552804247

Orizaba 87, C. U. Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc //+525552078121

Av. Miguel Ángel de Quevedo 353, Romero de Terreros, Coyoacán // +525555547366

This tiny café with a terrace is located on one of Polanco’s most pleasant streets. In my opinion, it fits all of the criteria for a first-rate hamburger restaurant.

The food is prepared with high-quality ingredients. You may build your own burger with your favorite components like bacon, goat cheese, prosciutto, portobello, shrimp, guacamole, and other vegetables.

There are also pre-designed burgers named after rock superstars such as Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, and others.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (13)

We got two original burgers with additional cheddar and bacon and were blown away.

This sandwich came with a tomato slice and was juicy, salty, sweet, spicy from the pickled jalapenos, and cheesy. Perfectly messy. Mind blown.

This is your spot if you crave unique and delicious burgers in Mexico City!

Condesa Restaurants

Clara Y Ema

Calle Marsella 14, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Ciudad de México //+525562731136

Calle Juan Escutia 127, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc //+525516912398

380, Blvd. Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra Local 1, Col. Irrigación //+525551927133

Whether you are looking for something small and cozy or something with a touch of class, this is the place for you. I have had breakfasts and lunches here, among the best I have found.

The menu changes daily, but the pastries, sandwiches, quiches, and freshly squeezed orange juice are always great.

We began our day with beautifully prepared egg sandwiches with unique and local flavors. Quick, easy, and high-quality ingredients. This is a must-visit spot for breakfast in Mexico City.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (14)

Yellow Monkey

Agustín Melgar 22-local 8, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc //+525589618887

This is another fantastic breakfast restaurant in Mexico City, small, cozy, and decorated with brand-related motifs. Well-decorated with improvised music in the American manner of its food and reasonably priced.

I liked the place; it’s lovely, and you eat quite well. The rates and portions were quite reasonable for the neighborhood. The meals are large enough to be shared.

I tried the chilaquiles, which were pretty nice; I would add a little more spice to them, but everything else was fine. I also got a biscuit, which was amazing; soft on the inside yet crunchy on the exterior.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (15)

There is excellent attention and a very warm atmosphere. There is a very cozy and pleasant ambiance in the restaurant itself. As a whole, I highly recommend them.

Botánico

Alfonso Reyes 217, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México // +525552712152

Botánico is incredible, and the food is delicious. Since my first visit, I’ve returned several times. One of the best aspects of Botánico is how intimate and personal it feels.

The service is quite polite, and you immediately feel at ease. The atmosphere is lovely, and there aren’t many options on the menu, so you can be confident about what to choose (which also helps indecisive folks like me!).

The Mexico City restaurant has a laid-back environment with gentle music playing throughout the day and at all meals, making it ideal for a date or a night out with friends! The 40-year-old cacti in the garden’s center are magnificent.

We were able to sample numerous items, including the Caesar salad, tuna and shrimp carpaccio, oysters, fried squid, sea bass, and, as an honorable mention, the organic baked chicken that was cooked to perfection.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (16)

It’s also worth highlighting the hamburgers and desserts, the chocolate cake and its strawberry-cream variation. All in all, it’s a very cozy restaurant with delicious food. Give it a try!

ALPHI Pizzería Artesanal

Aguascalientes 237, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc //+525596278527

There are other choices, but Alphii Pizzeria Artesanal is one of my favorite places for pizza in Mexico City. The cuisine is fantastic, with lots of fresh ingredients and excellent dishes.

Come here for a beautiful Italian lunch or some authentic Mexican meals at a reasonable price.

Try the pizzas with clams and mushrooms! Their ice cream flavors were also a pleasant surprise; they are created in-house, and we sampled the Stout Beer & Pretzels, Gorgonzola & Pear, and Oatmeal varieties, all of which we enjoyed! Definitely, a must-see if you’re in CDMX.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (17)

Ojo de Agua

CONDESA HIPODROME 23C, Hipódromo, 06100 Ciudad de México //+525563958000

Ojo de Agua is undoubtedly one of my favorite cafes I’ve ever visited in my travels. It may appear hipster, yet it is unpretentious and surprisingly authentic, given the trendy and modern neighborhood in which it is located.

Even though it is a chain, the boho style with rustic accents is the ideal setting to start your day in Mexico City. The salads are fresh, and there is a large array of egg alternatives.

This place combines a small cafe with a grocery store. They offer a variety of delectable choices for you to choose from! You can also buy fruits, milk, eggs, and other items. Almost all of their products are organic and sourced locally.

I tried their delicious Chilaquiles and their equally enticing matcha green tea latte. Their juices and smoothies are also exceptionally fresh. Portion sizes are also enormous, particularly by Mexican standards.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (18)

Visit them for lunch and enjoy people-watching as they stroll through the lovely green neighborhood.

Pizzas Nosferatu

Eje 2 Sur 24, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc //+525568031313

Pizzas Nosferatu stands out from the crowd of the many Italian eateries dotted across Colonial Condesa and Roma if you’re seeking a gourmet pizza in Condesa.

Their pizza is produced entirely from organic ingredients. The fresh Parmesan comes from Uruguay, while the other cheeses come from local farms all around Mexico.

Consider the roasted garlic and prosciutto pizza with fresh onion marmalade or Torino sausage with mushrooms. Absolutely amazing!

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (19)

Because there isn’t much space, you may have to wait for a little to acquire a table, but it will be worth it in the end. This restaurant is highly recommended!

Azul

Av Nuevo León 68, Hipódromo, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México //+525552866380

Azul is interesting to me because their menu includes several regional foods from Mexico. Mexicans are known for providing good service and for making you feel welcome.

There are many different types of guacamole to select from! I went with one that had guava and pomegranate in it, and it was fantastic.

We started with Panuchos de Cochinita Pibil; they were breathtaking; As for entrees, I ordered the fillet with chipotle salsa. I loved every bit of it! The flavors were subtle and unusual.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (20)

We also had margaritas, of course. There is also a list of several types from which to choose. The service was excellent!

I hope to return and taste all of those unique flavors. So, I recommend you visit it too!

El Pescadito

C. Atlixco 38, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc, 06140 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Pescadito is a fast-food seafood taco restaurant in the middle of Mexico City. The restaurant is small, with only 12 tables, but it is a favorite hangout for residents and tourists.

We’ve dined here several times, and it’s one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Mexico City!

We got our drinks, which were placed on a table, and then we went up and ordered our tacos, which were delicious shrimp tacos and mixed shrimp and fish tacos.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (21)

Then you head over to the salsa bar, throw on your toppings, and settle down to enjoy. The environment was fantastic, the personnel was fantastic, and the food is extremely reasonably priced. One of the best when it comes to tacos in Mexico City!

Lardo

Agustín Melgar 6, Colonia Condesa, Cuauhtémoc //+525552117731

Lardo is one of Mexico City’s greatest restaurants, serving delicious and traditional cuisine.

I like how their food is of excellent quality but delivered in a casual and relaxed setting. They have a terrific assortment of local craft brews; I loved their Mexican wine selection!

The ambiance and decor are very trendy, and the cuisine is organized into various categories, such as Pasta Noodles and Risotto, Beef Filet Mignon, and much more.

When you order your lunch, you’ll also note that most of their delectable dishes are prepared fresh.

The Jamon, burrata, and plum nibble, arugula with roasted tomatoes, ceviche, fried rice with shrimp, and berry dessert were all highlights of my visit.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (22)

Everything was great! Don’t skip out on the incredible bread. I wish we had a pizza that used the same bread.

The vast choice of bread/pastries for breakfast is also a highlight, which is not surprising, given that this is part of the Rosetta restaurant chef/owner group.

Both the guava roll and the cardamom roll were delicious. We had a few egg dishes and relaxed outside. I adore this location! Visit it; you will not be disappointed!

Pro-tip: Come early on weekends as you can often find a line of people waiting to get in!

Roma Norte Restaurants

Eno

Chihuahua 139, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525575760919

This is one of my favorite brunch restaurants in Mexico City. Though the food is relatively ordinary, the fact that you will eat at one of Enrique Olvera’s restaurants makes the journey worthwhile.

They serve a very nice breakfast place, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. I found the co*cktails to be extremely well made, the plating was simple and elegant, and the overall experience was excellent.

The freshness of the food is likely their best-kept secret, but their service is also noteworthy.

I had the best huevos rancheros I’d ever tasted. The frijoles had a distinct touch of Hoja Santa that made them taste like 100% genuine Mexican home cuisine. It’s so heartwarming. Ideal for CDMX’s chilly fall-winter mornings.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (23)

It was also Pan de Muerto time of year, so I also had some pink guava atole with a cookie biscuit. The atole wasn’t as sweet as usual, so the cookie biscuit provided some sweetness.

I’d definitely return for the huevos rancheros. A very authentic twist on a common meal. Give this spot a try; you will not regret it!

Peltre

Av. Álvaro Obregón 86, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Peltre is one of my favorite brunch spots in CDMX. They feature a wonderful assortment of authentic Mexican and Latin American cuisine in Mexico City that is affordable to everyone.

It’s a place where you can go several times a month, and each time is just as good as the last.

This is my favorite breakfast location. It’s usually crowded, so you know it’s fantastic. Such a cute and contemporary spot for coffee, tea, lattes, and other beverages. Their breakfast menu was pretty quick. I got the Enfrijoladas and an almond milk Chai latte.

The Enfrijoladas were heavenly. It’s basically beans mashed to a smooth consistency and put over two corn tortillas with shredded chicken inside. It’s covered with crumbled cheese and avocado and topped with crème.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (24)

So, so good. And I’m still daydreaming about the almond milk chai latte. I had one of the most amazing and delicious food and drinks here. I recommend it to everyone!

Plantasia

Puebla 120, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525551227625

This Asian plant-based and vegan restaurant in Mexico City has a terrific ambiance, amazing service, and a one-of-a-kind interior design.

This is, in my opinion, one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Mexico City. It has a fantastic atmosphere and excellent service. If someone complained about the food being bland or flavorless, they must have purchased the wrong items.

I will mention that the summer rolls are bland. They are badly wrapped, fall apart, and require more sauciness.

The sweet ponzu sauce isn’t flavorful enough to compensate for the tasteless raw veggies that fall out of the wrap. Simply do not order that. Instead, get the crispy wontons.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (25)

They’re so wonderful that you’ll want to order more once you’re done. I also had the pad thai and the pad see ew. I added the additional sauce to the pad see ew since it was a little dry, but the sauce’s flavor was amazing and I simply needed more.

For dessert, I had the brownie and ice cream, and it was the finest brownie I’ve ever had, vegan or not. I ordered the Mai Tai with kratom and ginger kombucha, both delicious.

The food I tried here is sure to please anyone. And the restaurant’s design is among my favorite in town. Give it a try!

Sartoria

Orizaba 42, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525572653616

The long history of Sartoria restaurant in Mexico City is complemented by its library and chapel.

The dining room has a curving ceiling, which helps to create an appealing, intimate space while also giving it a feeling of history. This may also be seen in some of the murals that grace the walls of this lovely area.

The menu changes seasonally, so there are always new foods to sample. This restaurant has a lot to offer, from an artisan cheese platter with grapes to handmade pastas and entrees including lacquered short ribs.

As starters, one of us got the Panzanella and the other the zucchini carpaccio; both were delicious. We had short ribs and sea bass for our main course, and they were both excellent.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (26)

For dessert, we split the “A Huevo,” which looked like an egg (thus the name) and tasted like paradise.

The service was attentive without being intrusive; there were English menus, and the waiters were proficient for those who did not know Spanish. This was one of the most delicious dinners we’ve had in a long time.

Be sure to try their three of four course omakase pasta menu. We always go for the four-course which is four half portions of chef’s choice for best homemade pastas of the day. It’s one of my favorite Mexico City dining experiences!

The only thing – not a “bad” thing, but something to consider – is that at peak hours, Sartoria is not exactly conversation-friendly because everyone is having a good time, and the space is limited. However, speaking loudly is a small price to pay for quality.

There is no doubt that your time will be well spent here.

Meroma

Colima 150, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525559202654

If you enjoy modern food, this is the place to go when visiting Mexico City. Each dish is rich with colors, scents, tastes, and looks that will tantalize your taste buds while challenging your self-control.

Don’t be concerned! They also serve highly nutritious food. Invite others to go with you so you can try more dishes, and your friends will thank you for taking them there.

The flavors were delicious. I tried the foie gras, which was delicate and delicious. The Jerk Pork Chop was flavorful and authentically Caribbean; the meat was cooked beautifully and had good fat marbling. The tequila options were superb, as was the service.

This location is quite spectacular; it is well worth a visit!

This is another place you’ll want to reserve in advance!

Soul La Roma

Tabasco 101, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525571551299

Soul La Roma is an amazing discovery! It has La Roma’s welcoming, laid-back, and cool vibe and seems extremely local.

The decor blends old and new with cozy sofas and rustic tables that appear to have been handcrafted, on par with other trendy restaurants in Mexico City.

The menu, which had something for everyone, impressed me even more. It has to rank among the best burgers in Mexico City, I have to admit. The Sauber burger and the ribeye Philly cheese steak were both their menu choices. Delicious.

Give it a try if you want a chill atmosphere with amazing food!

Wabi Sushi

Orizaba 76, C. U. Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémo //+525559414815

Wabi Sushi is the place to go if you’re searching for a truly delicious dinner in Mexico. Not only is their cuisine excellent, but it is also reasonably priced and real Japanese food.

The restaurant is gorgeous, with exposed ceiling beams and a 3-foot-long pine table around the space. Although they had outdoor sitting, it was raining that night, so we stayed inside, where there is subdued Asian art on the concrete walls. The sake is mouthwatering.

The staff’s explanations of the offerings urge you to sample them all. We received an eel maki and a dumpling to try, both of which were served on blue and green ceramics.

While I had the soft shell crab tempura and my other friend had a salmon bowl, my friend ordered spicy Korean amberjack. All mouthwatering. Fantastic experience, and I heartily recommend this gorgeous sushi restaurant in Mexico City.

Delirio

Monterrey 116, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc //+525555840870

Designed with comfort and simplicity in mind, Delirio will appeal to foodies and casual diners alike. It can blend in with any crowd, and it’s a spot where you may eat with friends, family, or even on your own.

I think this restaurant has some of the best margaritas in Mexico City, including one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had.

Delirio is located in Colonia Roma, close to the Zócalo. I highly suggest this restaurant to everyone who enjoys gourmet meals, fresh ingredients, outstanding service, and a pleasant atmosphere!

There were various fascinating breakfast options: we got Greek eggs, which were a wonderful choice, with the great flavor of sauces, beans, and a jocoque mixture.

We also tried green chilaquiles with pork carnitas, which were delicious and just the right amount of spicy.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (30)

I also saw great sandwiches, pastries, and cheeses on the counters. It is unquestionably a cafe not to be missed if visiting Mexico City.

Lalo!

Zacatecas 173, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc //+525555643388

Lalo is a charming cafe with plenty of open-air seating and a broad menu. It’s easy to see why Mexicans go to Lalo regularly, with enticing crepes, excellent breakfasts, delicious wraps, and even homemade ice cream.

The food is wonderful, but the service sets this restaurant apart. The personnel here is always nice and chatty, and they seem to know everyone’s name.

The menu features basic but delectable foods. I recommend ordering the corned beef sandwich with caramelized onions and the mozzarella and fig salad we had. The homemade sodas are also delicious, and the sangria is unique and refreshing.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (31)

Overall, a terrific place to spend the weekend. Give it a shot; you’ll love it! Believe me.

Restaurante Rosetta

Colima 166, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México //+525555337804

This is a must-visit restaurant when in Mexico City. The setting is lovely, as are the plates on which the food is served. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the service was much better.

To begin, we drank tequila and mezcal. I had been hunting for Tequila 8 in other restaurants and was surprised to find it on the menu.

The others in my group requested mezcal, and they had a great selection, including an impressive mezcal Negroni.

As entrée, we had green tomatoes, melaza, eggplant with Ocosingo cheese, and sweet potato with mushrooms. For pasta, we had tagliatelle with squid and ravioli with mushrooms. We also had the extremely unusual rye bread and chicatana with butter.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (32)

As main courses, we had the Bass with a salt crust, herbs, and salicornia, and a special beef with an unlisted sauce. Every single meal was fantastic and delectable.

I highly recommend Restaurante Rosetta if you want to feel an amazing dining experience!

Panadería Rosetta

Colima 179, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México //+525552072976

This restaurant is just excellent! The space is quite small, so you’ll be lucky to find a seat along the lovely bar area brimming with baked goods.

We ordered almond croissants, a pesto/cheese/ham sandwich, and two lattes. These were by far the greatest croissants we’ve ever had.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (33)

I loved the sandwich made with homemade, freshly baked bread. The lattes had a great deal of foam and taste due to the whipped milk.

It’s popular and sometimes packed, so don’t be alarmed by the crowds outside. The takeaway counter moves rapidly, and many of the folks outside have already placed their orders and are waiting for their drink/food.

All of this to say, this place is fantastic and well worth a morning visit!

Kiin Thai-Viet

Orizaba 219, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México //+525570957421

Kiin is another outstanding Asian restaurant in Mexico City. After Mexican food I eat so much Asian food in Mexico City as the Asian restaurants here are better than what you can find in most other cities.

This restaurant is distinguished for its gorgeous patio. It’s a very warm, peaceful area with high ceilings, plants, and wooden walls, making it ideal for lounging while enjoying a fabulous dinner.

The menu is exciting, with more options for noodle dishes such as Pho and Vietnamese noodle soup.

To begin, we got samosas, which are potato dumplings stuffed with light, flavorful Kari curry. They were so good that we almost opted to eat only these for dinner!

Then I ordered Pho Beef; the soup was out of this world. It was aromatic and delicious from the extended cooking of meat and its bones. I thoroughly enjoyed this bowl and drank the entire contents!

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (34)

We also shared chicken wings with tamarind sauce. Not to mention our place for tap tip krob, which literally means crispy ruby due to its appearance.

It’s a crispy water chestnut wrapped in a delicate covering of flour and served chilled in a light, creamy coconut drinking juice.

You will find Kiin to be a fantastic place to satisfy your cravings for Thai and Vietnamese cuisine.

La Docena

Frontera 31, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México //+525552080833

Av. Homero 135, Polanco, Polanco V Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11560 Ciudad de México //+525552552066

This is a fantastic Mexico City seafood restaurant! Every time I’ve gone, the place has been packed, and the atmosphere has been exciting.

They have a great Aguachile Tatemado and Colombian Chicharrón on the menu. The tortillas were handcrafted and delicious.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (35)

Their co*cktails are really delicious, so I recommend going simply for just co*cktails! This is one of my favorite seafood restaurants in Mexico City.

Their fish seems to be always fresh and tasty. The service was excellent. The restaurant is a bit costly, but it’s worth it!

Madre Café

Orizaba 131, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525561412847

This is the spot for you if you’re seeking a lovely location to stay in a bustling and historic city. Madre Café is a lovely spot in an old refurbished house with a wonderful terrace.

We started with the smoked beet salad, stuffed zucchini flowers, and smoked salmon, which were all delicious. Their food had great flavors, and the bread was wonderful. Then we had the onion soup, which was delicious with a hint of wine.

The mac and cheese was delightfully truffled, but to be honest, we had to request a bit more truffle oil. After that, the mac was an adventure.

The hamburger was out of this world, with rib-eye beef and caramelized onions. French fries, freshly fried and crunchy to perfection.

And the vacio, a soft cut of pork smoked and baked on hardwood, mixed with extremely fresh creamed spinach and fresh spinach.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (36)

For dessert, try the homemade lemon tart with fresh meringue on top! Manchego cheese with tomato and fig marmalade is a must-try. The opera cake was also a mouthful of wonder.

Whether you want a light breakfast or a drink in the afternoon, this is the perfect spot on the roof! Don’t hesitate to give it a try!

Yoru Handroll and Sushi Bar

Sinaloa 156A, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc, 06700 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525616096323

This is hands down the best sushi experience in Mexico City, with excellent wines, delicious fish, and good, calm and fun service. I would recommend making a reservation because this is a small room.

The food was fantastic. I intensely craved traditional Japanese cuisine, and this restaurant did not disappoint.

Make sure to order the incredible nigiri and platters off the menu. Everything was wonderful and fresh. I had a great time!

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (37)

The staff is extremely friendly and makes you feel at ease. They clarify all you need to know before you place your order.

Overall, a highly recommended dining experience with a charming atmosphere in Mexico City’s trendiest neighborhood.

Hipódromo Restaurants

Frëims

Amsterdam 62B, Hipódromo, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525591308449

Freims serves a great breakfast with a beautiful backyard and patio. It has a lovely romantic vibe and isn’t overly fashionable or noisy. The food and beverages are delicious, and the service is pleasant.

Freims is ideal for those searching for a wonderful brunch before or after shopping at local stores and markets.

My favorite feature of the Burger Master 19 was the spicy mayo. The patties were cooked beautifully, but I thought they could have used a little extra flavor. But overall, it was amazing!

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (38)

While I enjoyed it, I noticed many other attractive menu options here, and I’d probably try something else on the menu instead of the burger on a future visit.

There is also a little bookstore inside the restaurant, which is interesting if you speak Spanish. This is a terrific place for breakfast, and the atmosphere is pleasant and cozy. It’s a must-try!

Milo’s

Amsterdam, C. Celaya &, Hipódromo Condesa, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 CDMX, Mexico // +525555648712

Milo’s is a fantastic lunch restaurant in Mexico City. This spot offers a very nice and friendly ambiance and a modern interior design, and it is on an excellent site with plenty of vegetation.

They treated us like family and provided us with some of the tastiest food I’ve experienced on my visits to Mexico City. Dark Bohemia beer, roasted cauliflower with Parmesan, a tasty beet salad, and aquachile scallops.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (39)

Everything was wonderful. We ate here twice more throughout our trip, and when we were leaving, the waiters stopped and waved us goodbye. It was adorable and nice.

So, If you’re in the area, I highly recommend Milo’s!

Maque

C. Ozuluama 4, Hipódromo, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525570057000

Getting a tasty breakfast while watching La Condesa slowly wake up is a great way to start the day.

The Maque Cafe is an old-school establishment on the outskirts of Parque de Mexico. The waitresses are dressed in ankle-length blue house dresses with white aprons, while waiters are dressed in long-sleeved white shirts with light-brown aprons.

The high ceilings and antique chandeliers harken back to a time before air conditioning, cell phones, and television. Everything is immaculate.

We shared an oreja de chocolate that was one of the nicest we’d ever tasted, with a buttery, crunchy, but not too hard texture and a tinge of chocolate. We had huevos rancheros with chorizo caliente and a croissant ham sandwich.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (40)

The croissants had just come out of the oven. Everything was excellent, and the total price was $32, which included two cups of excellent coffee for each of us.

You can’t go wrong with this place. Arrive early to secure an outside table with a view of the park!

Colonia Cuauhtémoc Restaurants

Havre 77

Havre 77, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525552081070

This quaint café is, without a doubt, the best French bistro in Mexico City. The food is excellent; you should not pass it up if you enjoy French cuisine.

They provide a huge assortment of fresh oysters and shellfish and a superb selection of wines. The chef is Lalo of Maximo, and Gabriela handles the restaurant, so you know you’re in good hands.

The property is located on a quiet, tree-lined lane in Colonia Juarez, and its interior area has a modern French flavor.

Our starters were Escargots du Jour and Laitue, a salad with fresh tarragon that was flavorful and delicious. I ordered the Asparagus soup, which perfectly captured the sense of spring and was enjoyed by everyone at the table.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (41)

My friend ordered the Poisson Veronique, so good that I wished I had also ordered it. The pièce de résistance, a Tarte Limon, was the greatest I’d ever had.

It had a caramelized crust and a wonderful crispy bottom crust on the lemon custard. I would definitely return to Mexico City simply for this dessert! You must visit this location!

Tamales Madre

C. Liverpool 44a, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525557053491

Mexico City’s morning ritual of eating tamales is best enjoyed at Tamales Madre, a relaxed, homey restaurant.

The restaurant serves savory to sweet variations wrapped in banana leaf or corn husk. Still, they’re all made using organic heritage corn, locally sourced ingredients, and vegetable shortening instead of lard to make them lighter and vegetarian-friendly.

Don’t forget to order the house specialty, a bean and hoja santa tamale with a gently fragrant tomato sauce, and accompany it with atole made with seasonal fruit and nixtamalized masa.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (42)

You will not regret it if you decide to spend your morning enjoying some of the best Mexico City tamales around!

Masala y Maíz

Calle Marsella 72, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Juárez, CDMX, Mexico // +525513138260

Masala & Maiz is a fantastic and unique dining experience- Indian/Mexican fusion, as noted by the name. Her you can find a natural blending of cultures and sensations that combine to make something fresh and compelling.

We had a great afternoon sampling a half-dozen masterpieces and natural wine selections in the warm, community ambiance created by the huge shared tables.

Their dishes can be challenging, reflecting strange and unexpected pairings, but they always reward with ingenuity and delight.

The Samosas de Temporada are served with a beautiful sauce “made from poppy seeds, curry spices, carrots, and God knows what else,” according to one of the sous chefs.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (43)

The spectacular Camarones de Pa’ Pelar are marinated and then cooked in Grandma’s secret chili and herb concoction, which is not disclosed.

The fried chicken Pollo Frito is marinated in yogurt overnight before being coated in chickpea flour and fried in coconut oil. It is served with herb chutney and a sweet and sour macha chili jam.

Chef Saqib also promotes a wide range of “natural” wines from vineyards owned by personal friends in France, Italy, and California.

The service was highly professional, kind, and gracious. For those looking for culinary delights in Mexico City, Masala y Maiz is a must-see.

Café Nin

Havre 73, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico // +525591554805

This is one of the top brunch spots in Mexico City. Cafe Nin is housed in an ancient brick building with a casual and pleasant environment. I consider this an excellent spot to visit and enjoy its beautiful offerings.

The place is simply stunning; the decor is both cozy and sophisticated. Every dish is made exceptional by attention to detail. There are vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free alternatives, all of which are delicious.

There is a large selection of pastries, all delicious and of high quality. For breakfast, we ate both pastries and eggs, and I recommend scrambled eggs with chorizo, which were cooked just right and had a great flavor.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (44)

Pastries are the main attraction, and it’s difficult not to order more than one. We got an almond croissant, which was delicious, but I recommend the Guava roll, a wonderful hidden gem that you will return for.

Diego is a professional host who is as enthusiastic and informed about food and drinks as he is about the city. Nin is a true gem.

Also, make sure you go early if you want to have breakfast because lines before 9:30 can be very long!

Other Mexico City Neighborhoods

Farolito

Av. Insurgentes Sur 866, Col del Valle Centro, Benito Juárez //+525559202982

Farolito is a fantastic place to spend time, whether with friends or alone. The cuisine is great; they use very little oil and salt, and the sauces are not overly spicy.

Their menu consists of Mexican dishes produced daily based on seasonal ingredients and local flavors.

The Farolitos de Pastor on Arabic bread are quite tasty, golden brown and delicious, in addition to their delicious white beans, the pleasant setting, and the excellent service.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (45)

You should also ask for Bistek Con Queso; it is amazing! Give it a try; your taste buds will thank you!

Limosneros

Ignacio Allende 3, Centro Histórico de la Cdad. De México, Centro, Cuauhtémoc //+525555215576

Limosneros is a unique and fantastic find. I had the opportunity to sample some of Mexico’s excellent dining meals. The dishes were unique, wonderful, and “died and went to paradise” tasty. The employees and service were friendly and customer-focused.

Our waiter and his team provided us with a fantastic meal experience. We ordered the chef’s special in numerous small plate dishes.

Personal favorites are their superb fish and corn soup, chorizo balls, a fried beef doughnut with chili sauce, and the magnificent creme Brule with lemon gelato to cap the dinner.

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (46)

Our lunch was nothing short of excellent, especially when paired with a bottle of Spanish red wine and some espresso to conclude.

Many people rave about the food in Mexico City, and I believe Limosneros is leading the charge to prove it. If you have a few hours and want a memorable dinner, it’s well worth the money.

Cancino Havre

Havre 64, Juárez, Cuauhtémoc, 06600 Juárez, CDMX, Mexico // +525552074398

Cancino Havre is one of Mexico City’s most renowned Mexican restaurants, so I decided to go there and find out what makes it one of the top Mexican restaurants in the city. Cancino Havre has a fantastic atmosphere, and the food is even better.

The music, the artwork on the walls, the color scheme, the quiet environment, the ability to observe the pizza cook at work, and the smell!

Their pizza was homemade and wonderful, and their salad was fresh, creative, and great. That’s a great combination!

50 Best Mexico City Restaurants| Ultimate Guide To CDMX Restaurants (47)

Their co*cktail menu appeared to be stylish, distinctive, and trendy. I was tempted, but I wasn’t in the mood for a co*cktail, given the time of day. Definitely returning!

I love discovering such a well-thought-out and constructed hidden gem, and I am impressed by the company’s overall brand, which also encompasses other venues. It is definitely worth the visit!

Coffee Spots

Cafe Toscano Cabrera

This was a great place to relax outside and chat while enjoying a delicious co*cktail and a light meal. The service was quick and pleasant.

Love this place! Sit outside, have a coffee or a co*cktail, and watch the neighborhood walk by!

If you’re in the mood for a drink, I propose the Gin and Basil drink, the cappuccino, and the chilaquiles with chicken for breakfast. So delicious!

If you’re new to Mexico City and want to try some great food and coffee, then Boicot is a good place. This café has two seating areas: inside the main room and patio.

The atmosphere here is relaxed, with tables packed together while the other people just relax outside.

My friend ordered a mocha, which she said was prepared with Mexican chocolate and cinnamon flavor!

I decided to get a lemon cake, which was delicious, and the lemon frosting was sweet and good. To accompany my cake, I ordered an oatmeal latte. I loved it so much!

Iztaccihuatl 218-Local C, Hipódromo, Cuauhtémoc, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico

Tierra Garat serves delicious coffees, chocolates, pastries, and nibbles in a beautifully crafted and planned environment.

It’s a great spot amongst the Mexico City restaurants to work from home, read a book, or catch up with a buddy. Delicious and beautiful.

Tierra Garat’s espresso double is fantastic. As you sip, you get the scorching espresso followed by a cool, sweet aftertaste from the whipped cream. There’s also a trace of chocolate to enhance the flavor of the espresso.

We also ordered a tasty sandwich. Definitely worthwhile to pay a visit!
